EarnTick · last updated 28 August 2026
EarnTick tracks what you actually take home: wages, cash and card tips kept apart, and an estimated tax deduction. Everything is on your phone. There is no account to lose.
Getting started
The first thing the app asks for is your hourly rate, because every figure it shows is that number multiplied by time. It suggests a currency from your phone's settings; change it if the guess is wrong. Both are editable later under Settings.
Common questions
The figure isn't moving while the clock is running
A shift belongs to the day it started on. If you clocked in before midnight, the clock keeps counting but the money is going onto yesterday's card — the app says so underneath the figure.
Why is my hourly rate showing as “Set your hourly rate”?
Because none is set. The app will not invent one: a made-up rate would quietly poison every total and every export. Tap it to set yours.
Cash tips and card tips are separate — why?
Because they are taxed differently. Cash tips don't run through the till, so EarnTick never taxes them. Card tips run through payroll, so they take your tax percentage — or their own, if you switch on Different tax rate for tips on an entry.
Is the tax figure my real take-home?
No — treat it as an estimate. EarnTick applies one flat percentage. Real take-home runs through brackets and social contributions, which vary by country and by your circumstances.
I changed currency and my old figures changed symbol
That is expected. The currency is a label, not a conversion. Entries store plain numbers, so switching relabels your whole history rather than converting it.
I left the timer running for days
A session is capped at 24 hours. Past that, the app banks a day's worth on the day the shift started and stops the clock, rather than inventing a week's pay.
How do I get my records off the phone?
Two ways, both under Settings → Your data:
- Save a backup — one file holding everything, which the app can read back. This is what you want before changing phones.
- Export CSV — a tax year as a spreadsheet, for your accountant. Nothing reads it back, and planned future entries are left out on purpose.
What happens when I restore a backup?
Entries in the file that aren't already on your phone get added. Nothing already there is changed or removed, so restoring the same file twice does nothing the second time and can never cost you a shift.
I lost my phone and had no backup
Then the records are gone, and we are sorry — there is no copy anywhere else, which is the same reason nobody else can read them. Take a backup on the new phone once you're set up again.
